Over My Shoulder

The cast of Over My Shoulder Photographed by Ash Scott-Lockyer

A note from the webhost: "Over My Shoulder" is an absolute WOW! Having seen the show both at Jermyn Street and Greenwich, I was sorry to miss the 2nd West End Run, this time at the Wyndhams's theatre. All the cast are truly talented. Each give magnetic, energetic and crafted performances. Packed full of wonderful songs from Jessie's songbook, the show is orchestrated & choreographed ingeniously. The effervescent dancing is performed with style and charisma. Anne Rodgers has mastered Jessie's cut glass voice and divine singing, and Helen Baker, Suzy Bllom and Jo Gibb dance with all of Jessies grace and elegence. The show is moving, funny, and touching - indeed a real feel good experience.... Many Congratulations to all the cast,to Director Choreographer Stewart Nicholls and to writer producer Richard Stirling on a well deserved success!
NB - Soundtrack currently available from good CD retailers.

In the 1930s, Jessie Matthews high kicked her way out of the back streets of Soho on to the cinema screens of the worldOVER MY SHOULDER traced the path of Jessie Matthews, who in the 1930s high kicked her way out of the back streets of Soho onto the cinema screens of the world. Her elfin looks and lithe dancing won fans from every continent. But behind the glamour, her ghosts never ceased to haunt her.

The Jermyn Street Run

The show opened on 6 November for a four week run at Jermyn Street Theatre. It features her most famous songs, including Dancing on the Ceiling, Itís Love Again and, of course, Over My Shoulder.

Playing Jessie is the lady who starred in the original production of The Boy Friend, and won the Sarah Siddons Award as Eliza in the first USA tour of My Fair Lady Ė Anne Rogers.

Miss Rogers subsequently took over from Julie Andrews as Eliza at Drury Lane, and starred in She Loves Me and I Do! I Do! Her record of The Sound Of Music sold over a million copies. She comes to OVER MY SHOULDER, having recently starred in Out Of Order with Ray Cooney in America.

The part of Young Jessie is taken by the effervescent Suzy Bloom, one of the most rapidly rising musical actresses in London. She won raves as Becky in Vanity Fair at 2001ís Covent Garden Festival, and high-kicked her way through Chicago.

OVER MY SHOULDER sparked unprecedented interest at Jermyn Street Theatre. It was a wonderful tribute to an evergreen star.
